The beginnings

Born from the friendship between Quincy Jones and Claude Nobs, the Montreux Jazz Café concept was conceived as a way to offer festivalgoers a warm and friendly place where artists and music lovers could mingle.

Concerts, jam sessions, photo expositions and Montreux Jazz festival archives projections are some of the activities that took place in the first Montreux Jazz Café opened in Montreux during the 34th Montreux Jazz Festival in 2000.

From that moment, the Montreux Jazz Café has become the ambassy of the Festival; a place where living the Montreux Jazz Experience is possible. In June 2008 the Montreux Jazz Café Geneva was opened in Geneva’s Airport, followed by Montreux Jazz Café in Zurich in December 2011. On July 2012, we were delighted to open in an iconic location:  Harrods, in London. Faithful to the original concept, the Montreux Jazz Café is surrounded by the Montreux Jazz Shop and the Claude’s Collection.

The future is bright for the brand. A Montreux Jazz Café will open in Autumn 2013 at the Gare de Lyon in Paris, and 2014 will see the EPFL in Lausanne welcome us in a magnificent space built around the Festival’s archives.

These archives are one of the key elements of this adventure. The Montreux Jazz Café is based on their exclusive use—you can enjoy simple fine dining while watching mostly never before seen concert footage. The cultural heritage value of these archives is so important that UNESCO is considering including them in its program “Memory of the World.”

The Montreux Jazz Festival

The Montreux Jazz Festival was created by Claude Nobs in 1967. Nowadays, It has reached a unique position in the world of music thanks to this longevity and mainly to its founder’s approach of music based on conviviality and passion.

Since the very beginning, Claude Nobs has always been inviting artists to his place to share a good meal before and after concerts. This unique mix of music, food and feelings has given him a very privileged place into artist’s hearts.
